Imphal: The Anti-Extortion Unit of Manipur Police commandos on Monday busted an extortion racket operating through the digital payment platform Google Pay, according to a Manipur Police morning bulletin released on Tuesday.

Acting on intelligence inputs regarding “valley undergrounds” extorting money from government employees and private banks via G-Pay, police commandos conducted raids at a tip-off location.

The operation culminated in the arrest of Mayanglambam Lorens Singh (31), an active cadre of the proscribed People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak – Progressive (PREPAK – Pro).

Police reports added that authorities seized a mobile handset from him and handed him and the confiscated item over to the concerned police station for further legal formalities.

The arrest and seizure followed a day after the Prepak – Progressive observed its 15th Progressive Day.
