Imphal: The Manipur Police has sought help from the public to identify a body found along National Highway 102 at Khongjom Sangaikhong in Thoubal district, an official said on Monday.

The body was discovered on Sunday by a local near Khongjom, who reported the incident to the police.

A team of police visited the spot, after which the body was sent for post-mortem examination at JNIMS Hospital mortuary in Imphal East district.

Preliminary findings suggest the deceased, estimated to be 30โ€“32 years old, was found with one tobacco product (khaini), one syringe, and a small quantity of a substance suspected to be heroin.

Several needle marks were observed on his right hand, the official added. A case has been registered at Khongjom police station.

Police have urged citizens to assist in identifying the body.

Regarding drug-related cases in Thoubal district, the police stated that from January 1, 2025, to December 31, 2025, more than 7 kg of brown sugar, over 5 kg of opium, 3.67 kg of heroin powder, and 7.379 kg of WY tablets were seized.

The district police said it registered 25 drug cases and arrested 34 drug peddlers in 2025.

The total quantity of drugs seized included 7.798 kg of brown sugar, 7.379 kg of WY tablets, 5.101 kg of opium, 3.67 kg of heroin powder, 18 grams of ganja, 1,702 SP capsules, 887 N-10 tablets, 269 bottles of cough syrup, and 20 Diazepam tablets.
