IMPHAL: The Manipur police made a grim discovery on Thursday (April 04), retrieving a bullet-ridden body of a young man.

This recovery comes on the heels of a state-wide alert issued the day before, aimed at locating a bank employee, who vanished along with Rs 2 crores in cash and gold ornaments.

Forensic experts from the Manipur police located the body of a male aged between 25 to 30 years, situated in the bustling foothills of Waithou, along national highway 102, under the jurisdiction of Lilong police station in Manipur, on Thursday (April 04) morning.

The deceased’s remains were transported to the JNIMS hospital morgue for post-mortem examination.

The motive behind the killing remains unclear, with no individual or group claiming responsibility for the act.

This recovery follows swiftly after the state-wide alert was issued by Manipur police, prompted by the disappearance of a senior staff member from the State Bank of India’s (SBI) Bishnupur branch, along with Rs 2 crore from the bank’s coffers.

According to a complaint lodged on Wednesday (April 03) with the Manipur police by bank authorities, the missing individual is Laishram Monarch Grace, aged 41, son of Chaoba from Kodompokpi Maning Leikai in Imphal West district of Manipur.

Grace, serving as the senior assistant manager of SBI, had been absent from duty since March 2 and was entrusted with Rs 2 crore in cash and gold ornaments worth Rs 50 lakh belonging to the bank.

Despite attempts to establish contact with the missing staff member, all efforts have proven futile thus far.

In response to the complaint, the police initiated an investigation, filing an FIR, and issuing an alert to locate the missing employee and recover the stolen assets.
