Imphal: A Manipur police constable who fatally shot his senior officer has been suspended from duty, an official report confirmed on Monday.
Akoijam Bikram, a constable with Manipur police, has been placed under suspension under Rule No. 66 of the Assam Police Manual Part-II.
The constable was earlier arrested along with the service weapon used in the crime.
This action was taken due to his grave misconduct, which is deemed unacceptable behavior for a member of a disciplined force like the police department.
During his suspension, Bikram will be stationed at the Jiribam police station and is prohibited from leaving his headquarters without prior authorization from higher authorities.
He will be eligible for subsistence allowances as per the rules.
The tragic incident occurred on November 2 at around 10 AM when Bikram, following a verbal altercation, shot and killed Md Shahjahan, the Officer-in-Charge of the Leingangpokpi Police Outpost in Jiribam district, Manipur.
A disciplinary proceeding is underway to further investigate the matter.
