Eight UNLF(P) cadres were apprehended for allegedly engaging in illegal activities, including threatening civilians.

Imphal: Manipur Police arrested 9 insurgents in a series of operations conducted across the valley districts in the past 24 hours.

The arrested individuals include members of the United National Liberation Front (UNLF-Pambei group) and the People’s Liberation Army (PLA).

Eight UNLF(P) cadres were apprehended for allegedly engaging in illegal activities, including threatening civilians and obstructing a land demarcation process in Thoubal district.

The group, despite being in peace talks with the government, was found to be in possession of sophisticated weaponry, along with ammunition and digital devices.

The UNLF (P) cadres were arrested along with 3 AK 47 Rifles, 2 AK 56 Rifles, 1 M-16 Rifle, one 9mm Pistol, 147 AK 47 live round ammunition, 20  M-16 live round ammunition, 25, 9 mm live round ammunition, 16 mobile handsets and a Fortuner SUV (without regn. No.)

In a separate operation, a PLA cadre was arrested for extortion activities in the Imphal area. The rebel was identified as Moirangthem Maniton Singh.

All arrested cadres and seized items are currently in police custody, and legal proceedings are underway.

It is important to note that the UNLF(P) signed a peace agreement with the government on November 29, 2023.
