Manipur police have seized more than Rs 3 crores in fake currency notes of demonetized Rs 1000 from a hut in Imphal East district.

Acting on specific information about the manufacturing of fake Indian currency notes, a joint operation was launched at Keirao Wangkhem area in the Imphal East district at about 4.30 am on Thursday, said a police official.

During the operation, the police found bundles of fake Indian currency notes of demonetized Rs 1000 from inside a locked hut.

The owner of the hut identified as Ch Dewan Singh, 50, was arrested.

Dewan disclosed that some manufactured fake Indian currency notes of Rs 1000 were hidden inside his hut.

He disclosed that the packing and binding of fake Indian currency notes were done along with one Ch Surchandra, 40, a resident of Keirao Wangkhem.

Both of them were arrested and seized the fake Indian currency notes.

They said that the fake Indian currency notes were brought by one Tony of Keirao along with his nephew Arun of Waithou Thiyam Khunjao and handed over to them.
