Manipur Horticulture and Soil Conservation Minister Thounaojam Shyamkumar on Thursday, announced that 7,500 organic farmers of the state will be covered in the second phase of Mission Organic Chain Development for North East Region (MOCD-NER).
Altogether 650 organic pineapple farmers will be covered in the second.

The minister made the announcement during the inauguration of an aggregation unit for pineapple at Angtha village, Andro, constructed at the cost of Rs 11.25 lakh under the mission.
Shyamkumar said the unit will help the pineapple farmers by providing storage facilities and to provide shelter during extreme weather conditions.
Stating that the unit will benefit the pineapple farmers, especially the women who work tirelessly in the fields, he said the officials of the department are working hard to make Manipur an organic state. He appreciated the horticulture department’s efforts, including the officials working under the Manipur Organic Mission Agency (MOMA).

Debadutta Sharma, the project director of MOMA, said 400 organic pineapple farmers are covered under Thayong, Angtha, Andro and part of Thoubal in the first phase of the mission, reports The Telegraph.
He said the aggregation unit is constructed to provide storage for pineapple products after which they can be taken to the processing units. He appealed to the farmers and all the officials to work together as a cohesive unit so that more such projects/schemes can be taken up by the department.
