Manipur: One from Assam killed after vehicle falls in gorge

Imphal: One person from Assam was killed while two were injured after a vehicle fell into a gorge near Sibilong about 74 km from Jiribam, Manipur.

Reports stated that the individuals were travelling in a Tata Sumo when its driver lost control and drove into the gorge.

The vehicle was plying from Jiribam towards Imphal on National Highway 37 for business purposes and fell on the gorge at Sibilong village under the Keimai police station on Thursday at around 5 am.

The vehicle suddenly rolled down the slope and plummeted into the deep gorge apparently due to some technical issue and rash as well as negligence of the driver, a local claimed.

Rescue teams including police, security personnel, locals and civil administration rushed to the scene, as the vehicle had already fallen into the deep gorge, making it challenging to reach the victims.

Despite the efforts of the rescue teams, one male occupant of the vehicle stated to be a resident of Cachar district of Assam succumbed to his injuries at the spot.

Two other injured persons, one of them seriously, were rushed to the Oinamlong Primary Health Centre.

The deceased has been identified as one Md Laskar (40) and he is stated to be a trader from Cachar district of Assam, the police said.

The identities of the injured have not been identified yet.

Manipur Police registered a case under relevant sections and started further investigation into the accident.
