Manipur: News bulletins resume, newspapers to reach homes from Saturday as journalists call-off strike

News bulletins in local news channels in Manipur resumed on Friday after the journalists fraternity in the State decided to call-off their cease-work strike on Thursday.

Newspapers will reach the doorsteps of every house in Manipur from Saturday.

Journalist returned to their work stations on Friday, after a meeting which was held at the Press Club in Imphal on Thursday decided to call-off the strike.

The All Manipur Working Journalists Union (AMWJU) and Editors Guild Manipur issued statements on Thursday calling off their cease-work strike.

During the meeting on Thursday, the two journalists’ bodies decided not to publish handouts of an organisation which had been issuing different versions on some issues.

Journalists in Manipur were staging a cease-work strike across Manipur from February 13 in protest against grenade attack on a popular media outlet in the State that publishes 2 newspapers.

Unidentified miscreants on February 12 had hurled grenades at the office of the media house that brings out Poknapham, a vernacular daily, and the English paper People’s Chronicle.
