Imphal: Naga women protesters set a two-wheeler on fire after its occupants were found in possession of contraband items and Rs 30,000 in cash on the final day of a three-day shutdown (bandh) called by the United Naga Council (UNC) and the All Naga Studentsโ€™ Association, Manipur (ANSAM) on Thursday.

According to reports, the incident occurred near the Kanglatongbi bridge between Kangpokpi and Imphal West districts on NH-102 around 2.30 pm. A large number of Naga women supporting the bandh blocked the road and stopped two individuals on a motorcycle.

After a thorough search, the individuals were found in possession of a plastic packet containing contraband ganja, Rs 30,000 in cash, and a mobile phone.

The irate protesters set the vehicle on fire, and the two individuals, along with the recovered items, were handed over to the police.

The identities of the arrested persons are being withheld, the report stated.

The bandh was called to protest the killing of two Naga civilians at TM Kasom along NH-202 (Imphalโ€“Ukhrul road) on April 18.

In response to the appeal made by Naga bodies, the community held a candlelight vigil on April 23 at 6.30 pm across all Naga district headquarters and in Imphal.
