Imphal: Naga MLA Muivah, elected from the Ukhrul Assembly constituency, pressed Union officials in New Delhi for urgent repairs to National Highways 102A and 202, stating that severe road deterioration and landslides have isolated the districts of Manipur’s Ukhrul and Kamjong and nearby areas.
Muivah recently met Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways Secretary V. Umashankar in the national capital. During the meeting, Muivah raised the issue of the damaged Lower Hundung-to-Choithar section.
He called for the quick resolution of land, legal and contractual issues holding up progress.
He said the poor road conditions are affecting trade, disrupting emergency services and putting additional strain on local communities. He also shared photographs showing the poor condition of the roads.
Muivah requested rigid pavement in Ukhrul town, measures to prevent landslides and the resumption of work on the Finch Corner-to-Tengnoupal double-laning project.
According to NHIDCL data, three major NH-102A packages are 80.80 percent, 94.01 percent and 97 percent complete. Their target completion dates fall between November and December 2026.
The meeting followed an August 7 letter to Union Minister Nitin Gadkari. Secretary Umashankar said security issues had delayed the work and assured Muivah that he would direct the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) to expedite both projects.
A severe landslide near Phaibung blocked the road on June 23. The 15-km Tollol Junction-to-Dungrei Junction stretch remains in poor condition.
