Imphal: Naga and Kuki-Zo legislators of Manipur who are members of the constitutionally mandated Hill Areas Committee (HAC) held a joint meeting on Friday. The meeting was conducted mainly through video conferencing.
HAC Chairman Dinganglung Gangmei said the meeting allowed the participating members to hold a detailed discussion.
In a statement shared on social media, Gangmei, who represents the Nungba assembly constituency, said he was pleased to bring the Hill Areas Committee together after a long gap.
He said the meeting provided an opportunity for discussions and reaffirmed the importance of collective deliberation and cooperation among communities in addressing issues affecting the hill areas. Gangmei also thanked the legislators who joined the meeting through the hybrid format.
The meeting was attended both in person and through video conferencing. Saitu MLA Haokholet Kipgen attended the proceedings in person, while the other Kuki-Zo legislators joined through video conferencing.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Chief Minister Losii Dikho and MLAs Khashim Vashum (Chingai), Leishiyo Keishing (Kamjong), Janghemlung Panmei (Tamenglong), Ram Muivah (Ukhrul), and Mumo Sha (Karong).
The Kuki-Zo legislators who joined online included Ngasanglur Sanate (Tipaimukh), Chinlungthang (Singhat), Letzamang Haokip (Henglep), Letpao Haokip (Tengnoupal), LM Khaute (Churachandpur), and Paolienlal Haokip (Saikot).
The Manipur Legislative Assembly has 60 members, including 18 tribal lawmakers representing Naga and Kuki-Zo communities.
