Imphal: The Tangkhul Naga Long Working Committee (TNL-WC) has launched a round-the-clock emergency helpline (Yarui I: 9612744804, Yarui II: 9862144506) for travellers facing monsoon- and conflict-related difficulties on alternative routes through Ukhrul and Kamjong.
Meanwhile, civil rights activists toured sensitive border areas to promote democratic resistance and ethnic unity.
The initiative follows the indefinite shutdown enforced by the Kuki CSO Working Committee, Ukhrul (WCKCSOs-Ukhrul), from the midnight of August 5.
The committee accused the Manipur government of “complete inaction” despite weeks of peaceful protests and a 48-hour ultimatum demanding an end to the alleged “selective economic blockade” against the Kuki community.
In a statement, the TNL-WC said the ongoing regional conflict and heavy monsoon rains have made travel along alternative hill routes hazardous for commuters from Manipur and neighbouring states.
It said volunteers are available round the clock to assist with vehicle breakdowns, medical emergencies, food, shelter and navigation, urging stranded or distressed drivers and passengers to use the published helpline numbers whenever required.
Meanwhile, social activists Ashang Kasar and Paul Chawang of Youth Rise for Change visited Liangmai Naga Taphou village on Friday. They met youth leaders, women leaders and village authorities in the sensitive border area to discuss the prevailing security situation.
The village has maintained round-the-clock checkpoints as a precautionary measure during the ongoing conflict.
During the meeting, the activists urged community leaders to remain united and protect their land and future. Ashang Kasar encouraged residents not to lose hope and called on them to pursue justice through peaceful and lawful means.
