Imphal: The Manipur State Commission for Women (MSCW), in collaboration with the National Commission for Women (NCW), organised a one-day awareness programme on Yashoda Artificial Intelligence (AI) on July 22, marking the first such initiative in the state.
The programme was held at the Jubilee Hall of D.M. College of Teacher Education with the aim of promoting digital literacy, online safety, and self-reliance among women. The Yashoda AI initiative, launched nationwide, focuses on empowering women with essential digital skills to safely access and use technology.
The event highlighted the importance of improving cyber awareness, strengthening digital security practices, and developing leadership and productivity skills among women in the region.
Addressing the gathering, MSCW Chairperson Th. Tiningpham Monsang spoke about the opportunities and challenges associated with artificial intelligence. While acknowledging AI’s potential in driving innovation, she cautioned participants about the growing risks of cyber fraud and online scams.
Monsang urged people to remain alert against digital threats, including fake messages and fraudulent online transactions. Banking and technology experts conducted specialised sessions during the programme, explaining common cyber fraud methods and sharing practical tips to ensure safer digital transactions.
A key session of the programme focused on the role of AI in education. Resource person Lamyanba Waikhom, MBA, delivered a presentation on “AI in Education and Pedagogy”, highlighting how artificial intelligence is transforming teaching methods, supporting educators, and reshaping learning practices.
The programme witnessed participation from teachers, students, and local residents. The inaugural session was attended by MSCW members, including Sk. Sophia, Member of MSCW; W. Phajatombi Devi, MCS, Member Secretary of MSCW and Additional Director of DIPR, Manipur; and Dr. Anita Kangabam, Principal-in-Charge of D.M. College of Teacher Education.
