A 42-year-old woman, reported missing for nearly two weeks, was found dead at Heirangoithong in Manipurโ€™s Imphal West district.

Imphal: A 42-year-old woman, reported missing for nearly two weeks, was found dead at Heirangoithong in Manipurโ€™s Imphal West district on February 10.

The incident has caused shock and distress in the local community. Police identified the deceased as Seram Ningol Salam Ongbi Niroda Devi. She was the wife of Salam Tomba Singh and a resident of Wakeithel Lamdong Leikai in Imphal West.

According to family members, Niroda Devi left her home around 1:57 am on January 28 without informing anyone and did not return. Despite repeated attempts, the family could not trace her. As a result, relatives and locals launched a search operation.

The family described her as about five feet tall with a slim build and medium complexion. At the time of her disappearance, she was wearing a red phanek, a red-and-yellow shawl, white socks and slippers.

However, the search yielded no leads for days. Finally, residents found her body on February 10. The circumstances surrounding her death remain unclear.

Police have registered a case and started an investigation. They are now trying to establish the cause of death and piece together the events between her disappearance and the recovery of her body. Further details are awaited as the probe continues.
