To address the issues faced in containing COVID-19 in Manipur’s Thoubal and Kakching districts, state education Minister Dr Thokchom Radheshyam on Wednesday held an emergency meeting at the conference hall, DC Office Thoubal with the officials of the District Administration of Thoubal District to take the stock of the situation.
T Ranjit Singh, district nodal officer, N Bandana Devi, deputy commissioner Thoubal District, Dr S Ibomcha Singh, superintendent of police, Thoubal District and officials concerned attended the meeting.

During the meeting, the minister was apprised about the shortages and issues faced by the district administration and frontline workers in fighting the pandemic.
The minister who is the district in-charge, Thoubal and Kakching Districts was also highlighted about the immediate steps and measures needed at the districts.
He stated that that the meeting was primarily focused on ways to address the main issues faced by the district administration such as need for increasing testing facilities and ambulance services, additional ambulance drivers to strengthen the strength of the present drivers, other staffs’, addressing public grievances, problems while conducting contract tracing and difficulties faced by the frontline workers because of discrimination due to COVID-19.

Urging the public to restrain from attending social gatherings and to avoid social functions and maintain physical distancing, Minister said that there is nothing more important than life.
He said even if religious rituals and performances are required it should be performed by avoiding mass gathering.
He also emphasized on the need to follow SOPs, wearing face masks in public, personal hygiene and the need for creating mass awareness on COVID-19 among the public.
He expressed that with the support of the public the pandemic can be overcome in the coming days.
During the day’s meeting deputy commissioner Bandana informed the minister that the 80 bedded COVID Care Centre at the Lamding Higher Secondary School will be operational by August 10.
A separate quarantine facility for Sample Collection Team will be set up at an earliest date.
She also said that basic minimum facilities like drinking water, sanitisers, waiting sheds at Sample Collection Centre will be ensured at Khangabok Higher Secondary School.
