IMPHAL: Investigations into at least 30 murder cases in Thoubal district of Manipur, have remained stagnant for a period ranging from 10 to 30 years.
This was informed by the Manipur Human Rights Commission (MHRC).
In regards to the matter, MHRC chairperson, Justice Utpalendu Bikash Saha (retd), issued notices to relevant police officials, urging accountability and action on these unresolved cases.
It may be mentioned here that in a recent surprise inspection, led by Justice Saha at both the Thoubal police station and Thoubal women police station in Manipur, the alarming truth about these lingering murder cases was exposed.
Manipur Human Rights Commission (MHRC) chairperson Justice Utpalendu Bikash Saha expressed deep concern regarding the prolonged delay in these investigations.
He said that dalays in investigation into such cases adversly affect both the families of the victims and the accused individuals.
In a strongly worded notice directed towards the Deputy Inspector General of Police (Range-II), Superintendent of Police, Thoubal, and the Officer-in-Charge of Thoubal Police Station, Justice Saha underscored the urgent need for prompt action to address the situation.
The MHRC stressed the inherent right of every citizen to receive timely and fair justice, asserting that the ongoing delays were unacceptable.
The MHRC also called upon the Manipur home commissioner and director general of police (DGP) to intervene and ensure expedited investigations.
