Imphal: The Kuki Students’ Organisation (KSO) Sadar Hills accused Naga People’s Organisation (NPO) volunteers of intercepting a vehicle carrying essential goods, assaulting its occupants and burning the vehicle at Manipur’s Mayangkhang.
The KSO demanded accountability and compensation, citing tensions arising from a prolonged economic blockade. It claimed that the alleged attack took place during a three-month economic blockade and called for immediate compensation and state intervention.
In response, the Mayangkhang Village Authority, in a strongly worded press statement issued on Friday, categorically denied and condemned the allegations made by the KSO Sadar Hills.
The student body had earlier claimed that a Bolero pickup truck belonging to Lamtinchon Chongloi was hijacked at Mayangkhang Thangal village in Kangpokpi district.
The village authority dismissed the allegations as “baseless, fabricated and devoid of any factual basis”. It said it had no knowledge or record of any such hijacking taking place within its jurisdiction.
According to the village leadership, the statement issued by the KSO Sadar Hills was a deliberate attempt to spread misinformation. It alleged that the claims were intended to mislead the public and tarnish the reputation of Mayangkhang village and the wider Thangal community.
The village authority expressed concern over the circulation of the allegations and demanded their immediate retraction. It called on the KSO Sadar Hills to withdraw its statement unconditionally and refrain from circulating unverified allegations without credible evidence.
The village authority also appealed to all organisations and communities to prioritise peace, mutual respect and peaceful coexistence over divisive narratives.
