Imphal: A 40-year-old man was shot and injured by unknown armed men in Kakching, Manipur on Friday.

According to reports, the incident took place at an inter-village road under the Wangoo police station of Manipur’s Kakching district, officials said on Saturday.

Some armed men who came in a vehicle shot and injured Meisnam Abhi Singh (40), the police said.

Meisnam Singh suffered a bullet injury on his right leg.

After the incident, the locals recovered him from the spot and was rushed to the Primary Health Centre in Wangoo.

After being treated, he was called in by the police for further investigation into the case.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the injured man might have been involved in the extortion campaigns in the southern parts of the state during the past few months.

Meisnam Singh is a resident of Kwakeithel Thounaojam Leikai, the police said.

So far, no outfit has claimed responsibility for the shooting so far.
