Imphal: Security forces have recovered a substantial cache of arms, ammunition and explosives during coordinated anti-insurgency operations conducted across three districts of Manipur over the past 48 hours, officials said on Saturday.
Acting on specific intelligence inputs, personnel carried out search operations in the Khulsaibung hill range under Machi Police Station in Tengnoupal district. The items seized included a single-barrelled gun, two pistols with magazines, eight Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), 41 rounds of ammunition of various calibres, and two Baofeng radios.
In a separate operation, a team raided an abandoned insurgent camp in the Awlmun village area under Kangchup Police Station in Kangpokpi district. The forces recovered an MA-11MK rifle, a pistol, six single-barrelled guns, two improvised mortars, 50 INSAS live rounds, explosive materials including PEK, hand grenades and detonators, along with tactical gear.
Military-grade weapons and explosives were also recovered from the Champhai hill range under Sagolmang Police Station in Imphal East district. The seizure comprised .303 rifles, INSAS rifles, ammunition, locally made bombs, and smoke grenades.
Police confirmed that no arrests were made during the operations. All recovered items have been handed over to the respective police stations for further investigation and legal proceedings.
