Imphal: Bishnupur district in Manipur destroyed hundreds of bottles of alcohol seized during the 18th Lok Sabha elections.
The public burning, witnessed by media personnel, targeted both Indian-made foreign liquor (IMFL) and locally-produced country liquor with a combined value of approximately Rs 4 lakh.

The seized items were confiscated between January 1 and April 30, 2024, in accordance with the Manipur Liquor Prohibition Act of 1991.

Oinam Surjit, Officer in Charge of the Bishnupur Excise Station, explained that the destruction followed directives from the State Excise Commissioner.

The Excise Enforcement team and Manipur police jointly conducted the seizures, confiscating various IMFL brands including Blenders Pride whiskey, Royal Stag whiskey, Old Monk rum, and Kingfisher beer.
Manipur had observed dry days on the election polling days (April 19 and 26) and the upcoming counting day (June 4).
