Imphal: The Kuki-Zo Council (KZC) has condemned an alleged pre-dawn raid by personnel of the Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA) at the residence of its Joint Secretary, Douminlal Haokip, in Manipur’s Kangpokpi district, alleging that the operation was carried out without a search warrant or due legal procedure.
According to the KZC, CoBRA personnel raided Haokip’s residence at Bongphajol village at around 2:30 a.m. on July 12. The operation did not result in any arrest as Haokip was not at home. The council said he was in Churachandpur attending a joint meeting of the Kuki-Zo Council and the Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM), along with the KIM president.
In a statement, the KZC, the apex civil society body representing various Kuki-Zo organisations and communities, alleged that the midnight operation caused distress to women and children who were inside the house at the time.
The council further alleged that security personnel conducted the search without producing a warrant or following due legal procedure. It demanded an impartial inquiry into the operation and urged the authorities to stop what it described as “selective security operations” targeting Kuki-Zo civilians.
The alleged raid comes amid continuing tensions in Manipur, with several apex bodies in recent weeks calling on the authorities to ensure that law enforcement operations are carried out impartially, in accordance with due process, and in consultation with local leaders.
