Imphal: The District Administration of Kangpokpi, in collaboration with the Integrated Rural Management Association (IRMA), on Monday launched a 15-day mobile vehicle campaign titled โProtect Childhood, Stop Child Marriage.โ
The initiative was flagged off from the Deputy Commissionerโs Complex by Lamminlal Simte, MCS. This intensive outreach forms part of a larger 100-day special drive, launched in December 2025, aimed at strengthening social safeguards across the district.
At the launch, IRMA Project Coordinator Thangboilen highlighted the NGOโs six to seven years of work in combating child marriage. He stressed the importance of a coordinated approach, engaging church pastors, temple priests, and civil society organizations (CSOs) to move towards a child-marriage-free district.
The campaign is part of a national initiative covering 250 districts across states and Union Territories. In Kangpokpi, it officially began with Mondayโs ceremonial flag-off by the Assistant Commissioner.
IRMA officials expressed their gratitude to the District Administration, Superintendent of Police, and officers-in-charge of local police stations for their support. They reaffirmed their commitment to intervene in any child marriage cases and urged the public to report incidents promptly.
The campaign will travel across the district to raise awareness about the legal and social protections available, with a focus on child helpline resources and the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act (PCMA).
