Imphal: Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Saturday flagged off a 30-member journalist team that left Imphal for Port Bairs to find out the missing history between Manipur and Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
The team including 18 females during their staying in the Islands will explore the historical links of the former Manipur King Kulachandra Singh and the other 22 Manipuri freedom fighters.

According to a document of the time of the British Raj kept in the “Manipur State Archives,” at the end of the Anglo-Manipur War in 1891, which resulted in the British victory, they were exiled and imprisoned on Mount Manipur in the South Andaman district, the then British penal colony.

Tracing the records of the past between 2003 and 2013, experts and scholars from the All Manipur Working Journalists Union (AMWJU) visited Mount Manipur.

King Kulachandra Singh was house-arrested in the mountain as confirmed by A Mubi, the then Vice President of the AMWJU. Since then, there has arisen a phrase, “… is lost to history” between Manipur and these Islands.
