A day ahead of Union home minister Amit Shah’s visit, an independent MLA has extended support to the BJP-led coalition government in Manipur.
Independent MLA Y Antas Khan, who won a seat in the recent bypolls, on Saturday, announced that he has extended support to N Biren Singh-led government.

MLA Antas Khan has reportedly written to governor Najma Heptulla expressing his desire to extend support to the BJP-led government.
Chief Minister N Biren Singh in a Facebook post on Saturday, said, “A warm welcome to Y. Antas Khan, Hon’ble MLA of 30-Lilong AC on his decision to support the BJP led Government of the State.”
Khan had defeated former minister Md Abdul Nasir by 3,078 votes to win the Lilong Assembly constituency in Thoubal district in the bypolls held last month.

Khan said he has extended support to the Government as per the wishes of the people of his constituency.
The BJP-led coalition Government in Manipur was formed in March 2017 with the support of four MLAs each from the NPP and the NPF, besides one MLA each from the TMC and the Lok Janshakti Party, and an Independent.
Currently, the BJP has 22 MLAs, while the Opposition Congress has 17.
