Guwahati: In Manipurโ€™s Tengnoupal district, multiple civil society organisations have announced an indefinite economic blockade beginning Thursday, May 28.

The decision is aimed at pressing for accountability in the killing of three Kuki-Zo religious leaders and ensuring the safe release of individuals reportedly held hostage amid ongoing unrest.

A press release issued on Wednesday, May 27 by the groups expressed support for Kuki Inpi Manipurโ€™s demand for a judicial-level investigation into the incident in which three religious leaders were killed.

According to the groups, the blockade will not be withdrawn until all abducted individuals are safely released and the killings are properly investigated and addressed.

They also confirmed that the agitation will begin on May 28, 2026, and will continue without a fixed end date until their demands are fulfilled.

The groups called on authorities to carry out a fair and independent probe into the incident and to urgently facilitate the safe release of those held, stressing the importance of peace and communal stability in the region.

Representatives of several organisations, including the Kuki Chiefsโ€™ Association, Kuki Women Union Tengnoupal, United NGOs Mission Council, Hill Tribal Council Moreh, and the Kuki Studentsโ€™ Organisation of Tengnoupal district, endorsed the declaration.
