In view of the outbreak of COVID-19 and subsequent advisory by the health authority in the country, Manipur government has taken up various forms of precautionary measures against the disease in the last 24 hours.
The State Government has ordered the closure of the main Ima markets across the State, including the well known three Ima markets and temporary market located in the heart of Imphal town, from March 21 to 25.
Commissioner of Manipur Administration, Housing & Urban Development issued an order in this regard on Friday.
The order also directed the deputy commissioners of Imphal East, Imphal West, Thoubal, Bishnupur, Kakching and Jiribam to ensure that the main Ima markets located at their respective district headquarters to close down from midnight of March 21 till midnight of March 25.
The closure will also include all kinds of street vendors, it added.
On the other hand the State Government also plans to reduce the attendance of the State Government employees in their respective offices.
The state chief secretary issued an office memorandum in this regard in view of the COVID-19 pandemic on Friday.
It directed all administrative secretaries and deputy commissioners/heads of departments under the State Government to ensure that office attendance is limited to 50 per cent for Group B, C and D employees every day and the remaining 50 per cent staff work from home.
However, the memorandum which would remain in force till March 31 exempted departments/offices and employees engaged in essential/emergency services and those directly engaged in taking measures to control spread of COVID-19.
Meanwhile, the public climbing of Baruni Hill and Cheiraoching have been closed until further orders, according to an order issued by Special Secretary of the Home department.
People climb the Baruni Hill and Cheiraoching as a tradition and this year the days for climbing the hills fall on March 22 and March 25 respectively but the hills have been closed to public climbing in view of the COVID-19 pandemic.
