Manipur health minister Langpoklakpam Jayantakumar Singh on Monday distributed medical kits to truck drivers coming from Jiribam side at Keithelmanbi in the outskirt of Imphal, officials said.
Health protective items like hand sanitizer, face mask, shields etc were handed over to the drivers and handymen of the trucks plying along the Imphal-Jiribam road, according official sources.

The state government, specially the Health department is very much concerned about the health and hygiene of the people during this pandemic period of COVID-19.
Lauding the role played by the truck drivers during the nationwide lock down, minister Jayantakumar also appreciated the fearless effort of the drivers to provide essential food items during this juncture.
Jayantakumar said the truck drivers of other routes will also be provided with protective health gears as similar to the day’s event.

He said that maintaining Standard Operating Procedures (SoP) by every one of us is an effective way to contain this pandemic of COVID-19.
Such event will also be organized at Inter-State Bus Terminus, Chingmeirong as next location, he added.
He said that the Health department will also provide necessary medicines when required by the associations.
Necessary instructions have also been served to the concerned department to take up immediate step when report of any COVID related cases received by the health department.
The day’s event was jointly organized by the Manipur Drivers’ Association and Highway Truck Owners’ Welfare Organisation, the sources added.
