The Manipur High Court has reportedly ordered the release of journalist Kishorechandra Wangkhem, who was arrested by the State Police under the National Security Act (NSA). 

Kishorechandra Wangkhem, a journalist of The Frontier Manipur, was arrested by the police under NSA for a Facebook post over the demise of then Manipur BJP president S Tikendra Singh due to COVID-19.

According to reports, a two-judge bench of the Manipur High Court comprising Chief Justice PV Sanjay Kumar and Justice Kh Nobin Singh ordered the release of Kishorechandra Wangkhem by 5 pm Friday. 

“Cow dung and cow urine doesn’t work. Baseless argument. I will eat fish tomorrow,” Kishorechandra had posted in his Facebook page after the demise of BJP leader S Tikendra Singh.

Earlier, Manipur activist Erendro Leichombam was released on Monday evening following the Supreme Court’s orders. 

He was released two months after he was detained under the NSA for his Facebook post criticizing BJP leaders for advocating cow dung and cow urine as a cure for Covid-19. 

Kishorechandra Wangkhem and Erendro Leichombam were arrested on the same day.
