IMPHAL: Manipur governor Anusuiya Uikey, on Thursday (July 20), directed the state’s director general of police (DGP) Rajiv Singh to book the ‘rapists’ in the case pertaining to parading of two Kuki women naked by a mob of Meitei men on May 4.

The Manipur governor met the state’s DGP at Raj Bhavan and enquired about the incident of Kuki women being paraded naked by a mob of Meitei men at Kangpokpi district of Manipur during the peak of violence in the state.

The disturbing video of the incident went viral on social media on Wednesday (July 19).

Manipur governor Anusuiya Uikey also sought an update about progress being made in the investigation on the case.

While condemning the incident, the Manipur governor directed the DGP for taking up immediate steps to book the perpetrators of the heinous crime.

She also asked the DGP for giving special protection to the victims, if required.

Thereafter, the Manipur DGP informed the governor about the incident and the steps that have been taken up to put the perpetrators behind bars.

On Thursday (July 20), Manipur police arrested one accused – named Huirem Herodas Singh (32) – a resident of Pechi Awang Lekai in Thoubal district of Manipur in connection to brutal acts on the two women.

Manipur police registered a case at Nongpok Sekmai police station in Thoubal district of Manipur in regard to the viral video of the two Kuki women being paraded naked by a mob of Meitei men on May 4.

It was a case of abduction, gang rape and murder, a police report said.
