Imphal: The Governor of Manipur, Ajay Kumar Bhalla, on Sunday conveyed a strong message of solidarity, encouragement and national support, reinforcing a shared commitment to equitable development, expanded opportunities and lasting harmony across the state.
In a Lok Bhavan communiquรฉ issued on Sunday, the Governor reiterated the Manipur governmentโs commitment to unlocking the regionโs potential through focused development programmes, strengthened infrastructure, improved road connectivity, enhanced public services and sustainable livelihood opportunities aligned with local aspirations.
He also highlighted the rich cultural traditions of the Mao Naga tribe residing in Senapati district, along with the vast untapped potential in agriculture and horticulture, traditional crafts, sports and eco-tourism. The Governor further remarked that the Mao region has long been known for its spirit of accommodation and mutual support, having extended shelter and assistance to various communities during challenging times.
The Governor delivered the message while unveiling a commemorative monolith marking the 92nd anniversary of the Mao Studentsโ Union (MSU) in Senapati district. MLA of 48 Mao Assembly Constituency L Dikho; Dr Lorho S Pfoze, President of the NPP Manipur State Unit and former Lok Sabha MP; the Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police of Senapati; the MSU president; and other dignitaries were present on the occasion.
The Mao Naga are a prominent indigenous Naga tribe in Northeast India, residing mainly in Manipurโs northern Senapati district along the Nagaland border. They are known for their rich cultural heritage, agrarian lifestyleโparticularly plum cultivationโpatriarchal clan system such as the Ememei (Memei), and historical significance as Makhel, the dispersal point for many Naga tribes. The community predominantly follows Christianity.
