Imphal: A joint team of Manipur Police and central forces recovered a cache of arms and ammunition in Thoubal district following the arrest of a cadre of the proscribed Revolutionary People’s Front (RPF/PLA) in Goa, while three other insurgent cadres were arrested in separate operations.
According to the police, Nongthongbam Ingo alias Krishna alias Yuhenba (51), a resident of Shabungkhok in Imphal East district, was arrested earlier from Cuncolim in South Goa with the assistance of Goa Police in connection with a case registered at Lilong Police Station in Thoubal district.
Acting on information obtained during the investigation, a joint team recovered two INSAS rifles, nine INSAS magazines, two 9 mm pistols and 163 rounds of ammunition of various calibres from Chingdompok in Heirok Part II area of Thoubal district on June 22.
In separate operations, Manipur Police arrested two alleged extortionist cadres of the Socialist Revolutionary Party (SOREPA). Yumnam Thoiba Meitei (57) was apprehended from the Pravabati College relief camp in Mayang Imphal, while Yumnam Joyraj Singh alias Ibomcha (36) was arrested from Mayang Imphal Maibam Mamang Leikai.
Security forces also arrested Kshetrimayum Frenston Singh alias Nanao alias Ithat (40), a self-styled Sergeant Major of the People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK-Red Army), from his locality under Porompat Police Station in Imphal East district.
Further investigation is underway.
