Guwahati: A government official confirmed on Tuesday, April 14, that the fuel shortage in Churachandpur district is expected to ease by this evening following the restoration of supply lines.

The official said protests along the Bishnupur route had earlier brought fuel supply operations to a standstill, as tankers were unable to pass through the area. To address this, authorities diverted the supply through Jiribam, and fuel transportation has since resumed.

The disruption comes in the wake of ongoing protests across several valley areas following the April 7 blast in Tronglaobi, where two children were killed and their mother was injured.

As part of the agitation, protesters had prevented trucks carrying essential commodities, including fuel, from entering Churachandpur via the Bishnupur route.

Bishnupur acts as a crucial link for moving goods into Churachandpur, and the recent blockade had led to an acute shortage of fuel in the district over the past few days.

Officials now expect the situation to improve quickly, stating that the use of the alternate route should restore fuel supplies by evening and bring relief to affected residents.
