Imphal: At least four people from the Kuki-Zo community were killed in intense gun battles with suspected militants that erupted in the early hours of Friday morning in Manipur‘s Tengnoupal district.

The gunfights occurred around 8 AM in Molnoi Pallel and Molnom villages, located approximately 1.5 kilometers apart within the predominantly Kuki-Zo inhabited Pallel area.

According to reports, three Kuki-Zo village volunteers and one cadre of the United Kuki Liberation were killed in the exchange of fire with militants.

Following the incident, a police team from Tengnoupal district headquarters was dispatched to the area to assess the situation. Manipur police are still working to confirm the exact number of casualties.

Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh addressed the ongoing budget session of the state assembly, confirming that the violence involved members of the same community.

He assured the public that the situation is under control and additional security forces have been deployed to the region. The Chief Minister urged residents to remain calm and avoid spreading misinformation.

The deaths have sparked widespread concern and anger, with social media platforms abuzz with discussions about the incident.
