Drama Festival

The 6th All Manipur Folk Drama Festival got off a rousing start on Sunday at Manipur Dramatic Union premises at Yaiskul Police Line in Imphal.

The festival is being organised by Manipur Dramatic Union in collaboration with Union Ministry of Culture.

Manipur Industrial Development Corporation Ltd (MANIDCO) chairman and MLA Radheshyam, president of MDU A Ksheergopal Singh and president of Critics Forum Manipur IS Kangjam attended the opening ceremony of the festival as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.

Manipur Dramatic Union is one of oldest pioneers in the field of drama/theatre in the State. MDU has been playing instrumental roles in shaping and promoting the image of the State, said Dr Radheshyam addressing the opening ceremony at the auditorium hall of the union.

Exhorting the youths to follow the footsteps of their ‘Guru’ (mentor), he called for a collective effort and cooperation to further develop and promote theatrical art in the State.

At the opening ceremony Manipur Dramatic Union performed its play “Pidonnu” directed by H Deben Singh.

The second day of the festival on Monday will witness Langmeidong Dramatic Union’s “Uchek Langmei” directed by S Rantankumar Singh.

Leimayol Arts Centre’s “Heirem Kangbisu” directed by O Sarmila Chanu, Lairenkabi Youth Dramatic Union’s “Thonglengi Aroiba Mikup” directed by T Shamu, North Eastern Theatre Association’s “Torbung Thumkhong Kangbada” directed by S Nimai and Aryan Theatre’s, “Tonu Laijinglembi” directed by L Bikram will be the main events of the festival on March 27, 28, 29 and 30 respectively.
