Imphal: A Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) sub-inspector was injured in the left leg during a crossfire in Manipurโs Senapati district on Monday morning.
Multiple houses were reportedly burnt, and security forces were deployed in the Taphou area.
Fresh incidents of firing and arson were reported from Taphou and adjoining areas of Senapati district, amid heightened tension in the area.
Between 9:20 am and 10 am, local media personnel who were covering the burnt and damaged houses were caught in crossfire from opposing directions. Sub-Inspector Pradeep Singh, 54, of the CRPFโs 36th Battalion was injured in the leg during the firing.
The injured officer was taken to the District Hospital in Senapati, where he was reported to be in stable condition.
The officer said it was difficult to determine the exact source of the firing as shots were being fired from different directions.
Security forces were deployed around Liangmai Taphou amid the firing. Movement along National Highway 2 was also affected.
A case has been registered, and authorities are investigating the incident. The extent of property damage and whether there were any other casualties are yet to be confirmed.
