Tripura Assam: One arrested for shooting man in leg in Rangia

Imphal: Unknown assailants allegedly shot dead an elderly man and injured another in different armed actions in Imphal West of Manipur, the police said on Friday.

The deceased identified as Sorokhaibam Iboton Singh (60), a resident of Naoremthong Khulem Leikai in Imphal West district was recovered from a secluded location in Langol under the Lamphel police station. Moive behind the killing is yet to be ascertained.

The body was found at Langol Wangdei Meitei Leikai, Imphal West on October 8.

The family members of the deceased identified the man only on Thursday at the mortuary of the RIMS Imphal, officials said.

In another armed action, an unidentified person(s) shot and injured a man identified as Sorokhaibam Amarjit (26), a resident of Uripok Tourangbam Leikai of the same district.

Amarjit was shot in his left leg at Uripok Sorbon Thingel, near the RIMS hospital on Thursday around 7.30 pm.

He was rushed to RIMS hospital for treatment.

A team of Imphal police inspected the spot but it is yet to ascertain the reason behind the action and who shot Amarjit.

A case has been registered at Imphal police station in this regard, police added.

No outfit or individuals claimed responsibility for the actions so far.
