Imphal: The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Saturday announced a Special Summary Revision (SSR) of the electoral roll for the 49-Tadubi (ST) assembly constituency in Manipur, with January 1, 2026, as the qualifying date for eligibility. Officials said the SSR process is a key step toward holding the by-elections.
In the 60-member Manipur Legislative Assembly, the 49-Tadubi seat in Senapati district has been vacant since the death of National Peopleโs Party representative N Kayisii on January 18, 2025, due to illness. This constituency is reserved for Scheduled Tribes.
Following ECI directives, the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Manipur announced the schedule under Section 21 of the Representation of the People Act, 1950. The announcement comes shortly after the revocation of Presidentโs Rule, just before Y Khemchand Singh was sworn in as Manipurโs new chief minister on February 4, 2026.
According to the ECI, the integrated draft electoral roll will be published on February 9. Claims and objections can be filed until February 25, disposal of claims and objections will be completed by March 6, and the final electoral roll is scheduled for publication on March 10.
The revision aims to ensure that every eligible Indian citizen, aged 18 years and above as of January 1, 2026, residing in the constituency and not disqualified under law, is properly enrolled.
Officials further stated that the CEO of Manipur, along with District Election Officers (DEOs) and Electoral Registration Officers (EROs), will oversee the entire process to ensure accuracy and compliance.
