Donations towards the newly-created Chief Minister’s COVID-19 Relief Fund are pouring in from different quarters of Manipur.

According to official sources, on Sunday, several individuals and organisations contributed a sum of Rs 12,50,000.

Sources said Babina Healthcare and Hospitality Industries Private Limited and Manipur Cricket Association donated Rs 5 lakh each.

While Kangabam Roogeet and Dhanaraj and family donated Rs 1 lakh each to the Chief Minister’s COVID-19 Relief Fund, Khurai MLA L Susindro Meitei, who is also the chairman of the Loktak Development Authority, donated Rs 50,000.

On Saturday, individuals and organisations contributed Rs 22,56,000 towards the CM’s COVID-19 Relief Fund.

The Sangai Express, a popular daily in Manipur, contributed Rs 5 lakh to the CM’s COVID-19 Relief Fund.

On behalf of the daily, Sapam Nishikant handed over a cheque to Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh in the presence of Sangai Express’s Manipuri edition editor Khogendra Khomdram.

Earlier, Tamei MLA Awangbow Newmai, the chairman of Namsinrei Panmei of Autonomous District Council (ADC), Tamenglong and chairman D Ringo of ADC Chandel donated Rs 1 lakh each to the Chief Minister’s COVID-19 Relief Fund.

The Liberal College Employees Association and Jain Samaj donated Rs 3 lakh each, Sanathan Samaj donated Rs 2 lakh, the Manipur Secretariat Assistant Group, Shiv Sena Sang, L Sharat Singh of Sarajeevan Enterprise, Koijam Gyaneswor Singh, Karam Kashi and ND Industries donated Rs 1 lakh each, Sikh Samaj donated Rs 1,51,000.

Yumnam Gunindro Mangang donated Rs 5,000 to the relief fund.

Chief minister N Biren expressed his profound gratitude to all the individuals and organisations who have generously donated to the CM’s COVID-19 Relief Fund till now.

The CM’s COVID-19 Relief Fund was created on March 23 following a State Cabinet decision for making available funds promptly for emergency requirements with a corpus fund of Rs 10 crore.

The state chief secretary, Dr J Suresh Babu, also appealed to the state government employees to donate one day’s salary to the Chief Minister’s COVID-19 Relief Fund.
