Imphal: Manipur has once again established its dominance on the national sports stage, securing an outstanding tally of five gold medals and one bronze medal at the 28th Sub-Junior National Sepak Takraw Championship, held at the Mega Sports Complex in Ranchi, Jharkhand, from March 23 to 27, 2026.
In recognition of their stellar performance, the Manipur government, led by Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh, organised a reception on Friday at the Chief Minister’s bungalow to honour the athletes who brought laurels to the state.
The young athletes brought immense pride to the state by displaying superior technical skills and determination. In the team events, both the boysโ and girlsโ teams clinched gold medals. In the regu event, the boys secured bronze, while the girls added another gold.
Furthermore, in the quad event, both boys and girls emerged victorious, securing gold medals.
Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh, in a social media post, wrote: “Heartiest congratulations to the Manipur Sub-Junior Sepak Takraw Team (Boys & Girls) on their remarkable achievement… Their technical excellence and physical fitness stand as a testament to Manipur’s growing sporting prowess.”
Speaking at the reception event, the Chief Minister noted that the performance reflects the immense talent, discipline, and determination of the young sportspersons. “It is my considered view that our existing sports policy must be better aligned with the aspirations and capabilities of our emerging athletes. I have, therefore, decided to review the policy framework to ensure it fully supports and nurtures their potential,” he stated.
The Chief Minister extended his heartfelt appreciation and encouragement to the team, wishing them continued success in all future endeavours.
