With one more death, the total COVID-19 fatality in Manipur increased to five on Friday, according to officials.

“Today, a male patient from Thoubal district died at JNIMS due to COVID-19,” sais DR Kh Sasheekumar, additional director and spokesperson of the health department in a press release.

“He was suffering from T2 Diabetes mellitus and hypertension,” he added.

“The cumulative number of death from COVID 19 is 5,” the press release said.

It may be recalled that the state reports the first-ever death case relating to COVID 19 in the wee hours of July 29.

The patient happened to be a patient of chronic kidney disease.

Meanwhile, with 116 new cases, the total number of positive cases in Manipur reached 2,621 while the total active and recovered cases stand at 931 and 1689 respectively, official sources said.

Out of 116 new cases, 97 are males and  19 are females. They were confirmed at Virus Research & Diagnosis Laboratories of Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS-54), Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS-61), Babina diagnosis centre(1), the release added.

They are being shifted to the COVID care facilities, it added.

Of the total patient, 7 are from Imphal West, 10 from Thoubal and two from Tamenglong and they did not have any travel history. Rest are returnees from other states.
