The Manipur Congress on Monday questioned the BJP-led State Government over non-release of funds under MNREGA scheme. 

The Manipur Congress criticised the Biren Singh-led coalition Government in the State over non-utilisation of funds under MNREGA tuning to Rs 485 crores. 

Manipur Congress leader K Meghachandra said that the funds have been released by the Centre but it has not been utilised by the State Government. 

“Where Rs 485 crores of central assistance under MNREGA in Manipur gone?” questioned Manipur Congress leader K Meghachandra.

“Since there has been no utilisation of the central assistance of Rs 485 crores so far for the purpose of wages, materials and administrative components, where has have it been utilised?” K Meghachandra further questioned. 

The Manipur Congress has demanded the BJP-led State Government to clarify on the status of the funds. 

“Has the said fund been allocated to other Departments or other schemes by the state government? If so, it clearly shows that it is a misappropriation of the public fund meant only for MNREGA,” the Manipur Congress added.

“Since there has been no release of the fund to the beneficiaries within 3 days of the release of the fund from the central government to Manipur Government, if the public points out these facts, will not it tantamount and warrant to take actions against the officials? Is not the non-release of the fund illegal and anti-public?” Manipur Congress further questioned.
