Manipur: Congress demands JPC probe into "Adani scam"

Imphal: The Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) led a protest in Imphal, demanding a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) investigation into what they term the “MODANI Mega Scam” and the immediate removal of the SEBI Chairperson.

MPCC President and MLA K Meghachandra questioned Prime Minister Modi’s protection of Adani and the SEBI Chairperson, alleging a connection between them that has harmed the nation’s economy.

The protest was based on the allegations by US short-seller Hindenburg Research against SEBI Chairperson Madhabi Puri Buch and her husband, claiming undisclosed stakes in offshore entities linked to the Adani Group.

Demonstrators raised slogans demanding a JPC probe, investigation into Adani transactions, and the resignation of the SEBI Chairperson to restore the regulatory body’s integrity.

The Congress party, the main opposition in the Manipur Legislative Assembly, criticized the Modi government for not instituting a JPC probe, sparking concerns about the relationship between the Prime Minister and Adani.

The protest sought answers on the source of Rs 20,000 crores invested in Adani groups and demanded immediate action to address the allegations.
