Former Manipur CM Okram Ibobi Singh along with Congress party MLAs met governor Najma Heptulla at Raj Bhawan in Imphal.

Leader of the Opposition and former Manipur chief minister Okram Ibobi Singh along with Congress party MLAs met governor Najma Heptulla at Raj Bhawan in Imphal on Friday, sources said.

The Congress party leaders submitted a petition to the Governor for disqualification of 12 parliamentary secretaries appointed in 2017 by the present BJP led coalition government in the state, for holding Office of Profit as Parliamentary Secretaries.

The delegation reiterated to the Governor that the appointment of the 12 parliamentary secretaries is against the Constitution, according to sources in Imphal.

They also appealed to the Governor to take appropriate action as per provisions of the Constitution.

The delegation which included Congress party MLAs Gaikhangam, K  Ranjit Singh, Konthoujam Govindas, Keisham Meghachandra Singh and DD Thaisi,also submitted a petition in this regard.

The petition was signed by DD Thaissi, a member of Manipur Legislative Assembly elected from Karong Assembly Constituency.

In the petition, the party wise positions obtained in the last election were shown as Indian National Congress – 28, Bharatiya Janata Party – 21, National People Party – 4, Naga People’s Front – 4, LJP – 1, All India Trinamool Congress – 1 and Independent- 1.
