IMPHAL: Manipur Congress has concluded its deliberations and selected candidates for the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections for the Inner Manipur parliamentary constituency and Outer Manipur parliamentary constituency.

During a meeting held in Imphal, chaired by former Manipur chief minister Okram Ibobi Singh and attended by Manipur Congress president K Meghachandra, the committee finalized its recommendations for the two Lok Sabha seats.

These recommendations have been forwarded to the All India Congress Committee (AICC) for consideration ahead of the Lok Sabha elections scheduled for April-May.

Dr A Bimol Akoijam, a former associate professor at the school of social sciences, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), has been selected as the Congress party’s candidate for the Inner Manipur Lok Sabha seat.

Meanwhile, Alfred Kan-Ngam Arthur, a former MLA of the Ukhrul assembly constituency, has been chosen to contest the Outer Manipur seat, which is reserved for Scheduled Tribe (ST) candidates.

Alfred Kan-Ngam Arthur, a senior politician from Manipur, previously served as an MLA from the Ukhrul assembly constituency during the 11th assembly elections.

He contested under the Congress banner and held office from 2017 to 2022.
