The Governor laid wreaths at the memorial atop Kheba Hill, joined by Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh, Ministers, legislators and members of the public, in a solemn tribute to those who laid down their lives defending Manipurโs sovereignty.
The ceremony was marked by full military honours, including a Guard of Honour, General Salute, Reverse Arms, the sounding of the Last Post and a two-minute silence. A gun salute was also accorded in memory of the martyrs.
As part of the observance, the Governor paid floral tribute to Paona Brajabashi at his statue at the foothills of Kheba, recognising his role in the historic battle. He also performed traditional rituals, including offering tarpon at the Khongjom River and participating in Sankirtan.

Addressing the gathering, the Governor described Khongjom Day as a solemn reminder of the courage and sacrifice of Manipurโs warriors, who fought against overwhelming odds during the 1891 conflict. He said the battle symbolised not only resistance but also the enduring spirit of honour, patriotism and self-determination.
