Imphal: The Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) has urged the state government to hold immediate talks with the United Naga Council (UNC) to resolve the ongoing economic blockade that is disrupting essential supplies.
COCOMI warned that it would join the blockade if the state and central governments fail to restore security, protect civilians and deliver justice.
The committee criticized both governments for failing to resolve the conflict that began in May 2023. It cited security lapses, including unresolved killings, attacks on civilians and security forces, and the abduction of 18 Liangmai Naga women and minors in May.
COCOMI also said that official inaction continues despite repeated public agitations and formal memorandums.
COCOMI acknowledged that the UNC blockade is causing hardship to the public. It said further delay by the government would force it to take supportive measures to protect public interests.
UNC President Ng Lorho said the Naga apex body remains ready to participate in a tripartite meeting with the Union Ministry of Home Affairs and the Manipur government.
He said a meeting scheduled for August 3 could not take place after the government rejected a request to shift the venue from Imphal to Senapati.
The UNC is now waiting for a fresh proposal from the authorities to resume the talks.
