Imphal: Manipur Chief Ministerย Yumnam Khemchand Singh distributed Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) funds to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) sheltering at the Alternate Housing Complex, National Games Village, Langol, Imphal West, on Thursday.
This marked the first interaction between Y. Khemchand and the IDPs since assuming charge as Chief Minister on February 4, 2026.
Speaking at the event, the Chief Minister assured that welfare schemes would reach the IDPs, stating that the government is actively balancing safe, voluntary return with financial assistance for those displaced by ethnic violence.
Financial assistance was directly transferred to the bank accounts of eligible beneficiaries, a system aimed at reducing fraud. However, concerns regarding compensation amounts have caused some friction among beneficiaries.
During the program, the Chief Minister interacted with the IDPs, listening to their concerns and assuring continued support from the government. A virtual interaction was also held to connect with beneficiaries at other relief camps, ensuring wider outreach.
The initiative reflects the governmentโs commitment to the relief, rehabilitation, and welfare of displaced families, aiming to ensure transparency and timely support through the DBT mechanism.
These discussions highlighted the state governmentโs efforts toward responsive governance and public service delivery amidst ongoing challenges.
The DBT initiative is a key rehabilitation mechanism, with Rs 523 crore allocated for resettlement in 2025โ26.
As of late 2025, funds for housing, including Rs 35.46 crore for construction and Rs 9.26 crore for repair, are being distributed to support the return of over 10,000 displaced individuals.
