Imphal: Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand on Thursday launched Interceptor Vehicles and the Manipur Heli Service Portal. He unveiled the initiatives during the Grand Finale of the 37th National Road Safety Month at the City Convention Centre in Imphal.
The National Road Safety Month was observed across the country under the theme โSadak Suraksha, Jeevan Raksha.โ
The chief minister later shared the update on social media platform X (formerly Twitter). He wrote that he was honoured to attend the grand finale in Imphal and launch initiatives to strengthen road safety and connectivity in the state.
Speaking at the event, Manipur Chief Secretary Dr Puneet Kumar Goel said the Interceptor Vehicles would improve road safety. He explained that these mobile, high-tech units can detect traffic violations such as overspeeding, lane cutting and riding without helmets.
The vehicles use laser and radar technology along with automated camera systems. As a result, they act as a strong deterrent against violations and provide instant evidence for issuing e-challans. This, he added, would enhance the overall efficiency of law enforcement.
Dr Goel also spoke about the Manipur Heli Service Portal. He said the platform, on the lines of the Heli Sewa Portal, would streamline helicopter services in the state.
The portal will offer round-the-clock online booking and real-time schedule tracking. Moreover, it will improve accessibility for people living in remote and far-flung areas. The service is expected to reduce travel time by providing faster and more direct connectivity.
Deputy Chief Minister Losii Dikho, Home Minister Govindas Konthoujam and Cabinet Minister Khuraijam Loken Singh attended the function. Senior government officials were also present at the event.
