Imphal: Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh announced plans to distribute land to impoverished families who were displaced during the eviction drive at Waithou Protected Reserved Forest in Thoubal district.
The government said that it aims to provide land to 12 eligible individuals who lost their homes in the 2022 eviction.

Opposition leader Keisham Meghachandra urged the Chief Minister to expedite the land allocation process, citing the ongoing hardships faced by the affected families.
Since then over 200 individuals of these families are seeking refuge at different makeships and relief camps, K Meghachandra added.
The eviction had resulted in the demolition of 69 houses, leaving over 200 people without homes.
